Job summary

Hackajob Ltd in London is seeking a senior data software engineer to design, build, and operate scalable data processing systems using Python, SQL, and modern data platforms.

The role involves hands-on development with AI/ML workflows, cloud environments (AWS/Azure), CI/CD, and containerisation, plus mentoring engineers and collaborating with product, data science and business teams. Hybrid work with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote.

Qualifications

• Design, build and operate scalable production-grade software systems for data processing.
• Hands-on with modern software engineering practices and tooling (version control, CI/CD, automated testing).
• Experience in cloud environments (AWS or Azure) including IaC automation.
• Strong data validation, testing strategies, code quality, and driving technical solutions end-to-end.
• Experience supporting AI/ML use cases with data-driven experimentation and decision-making.
• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management across engineering, product, data science and business.
• Proactive, curious mindset with ability to navigate ambiguity and evolve systems.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and developing software engineers while maintaining technical credibility.
• Desirable: experience with financial market data or regulated environments.
• Desirable: productionising statistical or quantitative models and AI/ML lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build and own scalable software solutions end-to-end.
• Design reproducible data workflows enabling advanced analytics and AI/ML use cases.
• Lead architectural decisions and align engineering with business impact.
• Act as technical authority to elevate engineering standards and governance.
• Engage senior stakeholders, communicating complex trade-offs clearly.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver solutions for institutional investors and private markets.
• Lead, coach and develop engineers while maintaining hands-on contributions.
