Job summary

The Pirbright Institute invites applications for a role within the Coronavirus Group focused on applying innovative technologies to control avian coronavirus IBV. You will use cell culture, virology and molecular biology to evaluate a novel gene-editing approach in vitro and report to the Head of the Coronavirus Group.

The role requires substantial lab bench experience, strong communication, and a collaborative, results-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Significant laboratory bench experience in a recognised R&D environment, especially in infectious disease.
• Experience in virological, molecular biological, and cell culture techniques.
• Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.
• An achievement record commensurate with career progression.

Responsibilities

• Culture of continuous cell lines and preparation of media.
• Growth, titration and characterisation of virus stocks; plaque assay and qPCR.
• Communicate progress and data to project partners; present at meetings and prepare manuscript figures.
• Assist with lab management, ordering, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain safe working practices and documentation for health, safety and biosecurity.
