Job summary

Service Care Solutions Ltd is recruiting a VAT Consultant to join a local authority in Worcestershire on a temporary basis. The role focuses on providing expert VAT advice, optimising recovery, and supporting financial planning and reporting in line with HMRC requirements.

The post requires a qualified accountant with local authority VAT knowledge, strong communication skills, and experience of TechnologyOne ERP and Excel. 6-month initial contract with potential extension.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with extensive local authority experience and knowledge of UK VAT legislation.
• Effective communicator able to liaise with HMRC and lead a team.
• Experience with TechnologyOne ERP and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist VAT advice on capital projects, property transactions, contracts, grants and funding arrangements.
• Ensure HMRC VAT legislation compliance and prepare/review VAT returns.
• Manage partial exemption calculations, VAT recovery and Section 33 arrangements.
• Monitor VAT legislation changes and advise finance and non-finance colleagues.
• Support HMRC enquiries, audits, and maintain VAT records, policies, procedures and internal controls.
