Subsea Xplorer is an ocean data company that collects critical marine data for clients, ranging from seabed mapping to environmental monitoring. Unlike conventional crewed survey vessels, we utilise advanced Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) systems to deliver high-quality data efficiently and sustainably.

Job Summary:As a Senior USV Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the deployment, operation, and maintenance of our USVs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure mission success, troubleshoot technical challenges, and optimise system performance. This role requires a combination of hands-on technical skills, operational planning expertise, and a strong understanding of marine environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute USV deployments, ensuring successful mission operations.
  • Monitor real-time vehicle performance, diagnose issues, and implement solutions for uninterrupted data collection.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on USVs and associated systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and clients to define mission objectives and operational requirements.
  • Analyse collected ocean data and contribute to quality assurance processes.
  • Develop and refine operational procedures, safety protocols, and contingency plans.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime regulations, environmental guidelines, and company policies.
  • Support software and hardware integration for autonomous navigation and data acquisition systems.
  • Train personnel on USV operations and best practices.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or a related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with USVs, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), or similar marine technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Knowledge of marine operations, oceanography, or hydrographic surveying is a plus.
  • Familiarity with navigation systems, sensors, and satellite communications.
  • Ability to analyse technical data and provide insights for operational improvements.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic offshore and remote environments.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as required for field operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with autonomous vehicle control systems and data acquisition software.
  • Certifications in maritime safety, offshore operations, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis.
