Job Description

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation that improves health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and addressing global health challenges such as mental health, infectious diseases, and climate health.

These challenges require bold science, but also collaborative efforts beyond science alone.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will join the Experience Design Team within the Digital and Technology department, reporting to the Associate Director of Experience Design, and be part of a community of UX practitioners.

Wellcome offers an inspiring, friendly, and creative environment where you will design experiences and leverage technology to meet our mission of using science to solve urgent health challenges.

Our digital products and services support funding, policy, advocacy, the Wellcome Collection Museum and Library, and internal data tools, focusing on user needs to solve real problems.

What will I be doing?

As a Senior User Researcher (Service Designer), you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, understanding user needs throughout product and service development. You will advocate for user-centered approaches and mentor colleagues.

  • Plan and conduct user research activities, facilitate workshops, and use various methodologies to uncover user behaviors and needs.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate user experience and identify improvements.
  • Create service maps of current and future user journeys, including digital and non-digital touchpoints.
  • Align service design with organizational goals, collaborating across teams to develop end-to-end services.
  • Identify opportunities to challenge conventions, proposing simpler, better user-centered solutions that save effort and reduce costs.
  • Co-design, develop, prototype, and validate new opportunities, including non-digital aspects.
  • Share knowledge, manage user researchers, and coach practitioners to improve research and service design practices.
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive culture across the organization.
Is this job for me?

To succeed, you should have:

  • Extensive experience in user research and service design, including workshops, service blueprinting, and guiding implementation.
  • Ability to advocate for user research and user-centered practices.
  • Experience planning and conducting research using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Experience communicating findings effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Supportive skills for mentoring other UX practitioners.
  • Good understanding of multidisciplinary digital teams and agile methodologies.
