WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

If you are looking to advance your career in Unix & Linux Administration and DevOps, the Santander UK Linux team could be the right choice for you.

Your role will involve VCS, Unix & Linux administration & support in a complex high availability environment, including implementation, production support, performance monitoring and tuning, disaster recovery, upgrades, patching, migration within a virtualized environment, and project work.

The Linux Administrators liaise with Santander colleagues to support all aspects of the VCS, Unix & Linux server infrastructure across the bank, aiming to automate tasks wherever possible.

The difference you’ll make.

  • Installing patches, upgrades, and configuring VCS on Unix & Linux Servers.
  • Providing technical support and guidance.
  • Performing system maintenance.
  • Monitoring system performance.
  • Modifying settings and configurations of virtual systems.
  • Providing fast and effective BAU support for incidents and requests.

What you’ll bring.

  • Extensive knowledge of VCS in a Red Hat Linux environment (physical and virtual), including Storage Foundation, Volume Manager, Veritas Infoscale, and Cluster File System.
  • Strong knowledge of RHEL6, RHEL7 & RHEL8, and Veritas Cluster Server in large-scale data center environments.
  • Ability to test and upgrade VCS while producing detailed documentation.
  • Experience migrating VCS clusters, e.g., host-based and array-based migrations.
  • Experience with large VMware infrastructure operations.
  • Experience patching Linux servers to remediate vulnerabilities.

It would also be beneficial to have.

  • Experience with Solaris and AIX administration.
  • RHCSA / RHCE certification.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools.
  • Experience with development tools like Git and Gitlab.

Additional information.

Working hours are typically between 09:00 and 17:00 GMT (Monday to Friday).

Occasional flexible support may be required, such as early shifts starting at 08:00 GMT or late shifts starting at 10:00 GMT.

On-call support may be needed up to a few times per quarter.

Out-of-hours project support may include OS patching, vulnerability remediation, and VCS patching, often after 18:00 GMT.
