Hybrid Working: Minimum requirement of 40% on Campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible

In partnership, School of Computer Science and Informatics and IT Services (ITS) Department are jointly seeking to recruit a Senior Unix/Linux Systems Engineer with extensive systems administration experience to support services operated by both the School of Computer Science and Informatics and IT Services.

Previous experience with physical and virtual server configuration and management is essential, preferably in a large enterprise or academic environment with authentication against Microsoft Active Directory. Substantial experience of Redhat-based Linux server operating systems is essential; Oracle Linux knowledge would also be beneficial.

You will liaise closely with School of Computer Science and Informatics colleagues and the ITS Service Desk, using the University’s service-management system to ensure that systems-related requests and incidents are progressed, through call tracking, communication and escalation where appropriate. The role holder will use their expert knowledge of IT systems to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner within agreed response times.

In addition, you will work across the School of Computer Science and Informatics and the wider ITS Platform Services Team to implement and maintain the customer focused provision of services using the latest systems technologies.

We require an enthusiastic individual with a passion for the job. You must be self-motivated, capable of working unsupervised but also able to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the team and department.
