Job summary

WR Berkley is seeking an experienced underwriting leader in London to drive premium, loss and expense strategy for assigned products and territory. You will steer renewals, new business and pricing decisions to meet targets, while collaborating with support areas to maintain service standards.

You will manage distribution partners, visit brokers and insured clients to improve submissions and retention, and lead training for junior staff, fostering a diverse and inclusive culture.

Qualifications

  • Extensive underwriting experience and knowledge in the Class of Business.
  • Strong commercial and financial knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the insurance regulatory environment.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a strategy to achieve the business plan from a premium, loss and expense perspective for assigned product lines and territory.
  • Proactively manages renewals, renewal changes, and new business to achieve premium plan.
  • Executes portfolio management strategies to drive a better loss ratio and achieve plan.
  • Proactively manages direct commissions and direct expenses to achieve plan.
  • Underwrites and prices individual risks following underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Documents underwriting and pricing decisions thoroughly and uses underwriting tools.
  • Collaborates with support areas to meet service standards.
  • Manages distribution partners and acts as broker liaison for assigned products.
  • Develops and executes a broker/insured visitation strategy to drive submissions and retention.
  • Leads staff with performance objectives and development plans.
  • Acts as product line expert and provides training to junior personnel.
  • Promotes a diverse and inclusive culture.

  • Organises and provides technical training to junior personnel.
