New Vacancy - Senior Underwriter / Team Lead (HNW Motor - Personal Lines)

Insurer — Remote/Hybrid

I am currently partnered with a leading Insurer who are seeking a Senior Underwriter/Team Lead to join their team.

This role will be more focused on defining the strategy and managing a team of Underwriters as opposed to day to day Underwriting. This role will sit in their Personal Lines team, dealing with Bespoke and HNW vehicles, valued £75,000 and over. My client is looking for someone with strong technical Motor knowledge and someone who has extensive broker connections in this space.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborating with the Underwriting Head and Senior Trading Underwriter to shape and execute the underwriting strategy for the product(s), with full accountability for delivery. The strategy will focus on driving sustainable growth and improving margins to strengthen market presence.
• Partnering with the Underwriting Head and Product Manager to define short- and medium-term financial plans for the product(s), with responsibility for ensuring the required actions are taken to achieve or surpass those targets.
• Maintaining a deep understanding of the market, including legal, economic, competitive, and socio-demographic trends, to support informed decisions on risk appetite and pricing. Staying current on developments that impact performance and opportunity.
• Building strong relationships with broker partners at a senior level to develop the portfolio in line with strategic and financial objectives.
• Underwriting a broad range of risks within the defined appetite and contributing insights to continually refine underwriting parameters, ensuring alignment with market opportunities and superior portfolio performance.
• Serving as a technical referral point for underwriting colleagues, brokers, and other internal teams, offering informed guidance based on comprehensive knowledge of risk, product, and pricing.
• Providing feedback to Product Managers, Heads of Class, and Pricing teams on the effectiveness of pricing models to drive continuous improvement in pricing sophistication and accuracy.
• Collaborating cross-functionally across the business to ensure a coherent and compelling proposition is consistently delivered to the market.
• Actively contributing to the understanding and management of risks facing the business, supporting the identification and mitigation of factors that could impact long-term success.
• Playing a key role in first-line assurance by using audit tools, peer reviews, exception reporting, and performance MI to ensure underwriting activity aligns with delegated authority, processes, and regulatory standards.
• Ensuring all actions and decisions are fully compliant with legal and regulatory requirements, and consistently reflect high ethical standards and organisational values.
