Job summary

Buckden Partners in Cardiff is seeking a Senior Underwriter for a growing short-term property finance lender. You will assess and underwrite new lending opportunities, review financials and security, and structure deals within policy.

You will work with Relationship Managers and Business Development Managers, make credit decisions within delegated authority, and help improve credit processes. Strong technical underwriting skills are essential for success in this hands-on role.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in bridging and/or development finance underwriting or credit risk.
• Strong understanding of short-term property lending and exit strategies.
• Ability to structure loans with appropriate risk mitigants and conditions precedent.

Responsibilities

• Review and assess new lending proposals to determine creditworthiness and risk.
• Prepare and review credit papers; identify risks, mitigants and key information.
• Make credit decisions within delegated authority and provide clear recommendations.
• Structure loans with RM/BDMs; assess LTV/LTC, security and exit strategies.
• Analyse property valuations, borrower financials and development appraisals.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and mentor junior underwriters.
• Monitor portfolio risk and contribute to process improvements.
