Working within the Lonham Group Ltd as a Senior Underwriter for Marine Cargo and Freight Liability business.

This role offers flexibility in location within the UK, as we manage a countrywide book of business. We welcome applications from candidates based in any region.

Main duties

• Develop existing broker relations to maintain and expand current book of business
• Generate new business opportunities in line with Lonham growth strategy
• Gain knowledge of and articulate Lonham client proposition
• Underwriting, reviewing new and renewal risks, taking into account type of risk, nature of cargo, limits, voyages, stock locations, turnover. rating guidelines and claims experience.
• Production and distribution of policy documentation.
• Input and maintain accurate records within the Underwriting and Accounts systems and capture relevant data to allow for the successful monitoring and analysis of risks written.
• Monitor risks written that are due for renewal.
• Prepare reports and statistical information as required by the Underwriters.
• Liaise with brokers and policy holders to obtain information to provide a quote and produce insurance documentation. Chase for outstanding premium/adjustments/declarations.
• Raise invoices/credits as required in relation to the policy wording.
• Liaise with other departments in Lonham and Chaucer as required.
• Liaise with brokers and clients to develop good working relationships.
• Attend training sessions and other meetings, as and when required

Regulatory responsibilities

• Sanction checking of all new and existing customers.
• Adhere to FCA rules regarding the handling of insurance premiums.
• Issue policy documentation within industry deadlines.
• Ensure that customer complaints are promptly identified, recorded and referred where appropriate.
• Ensure that the principles of Treating Customers Fairly are upheld by Agents and Service Providers.
• Ensure that all policies are written within Chaucer/Lloyds guidelines.

Relevant experience

Essential

A solid track-record in underwriting with good knowledge of Cargo and Freight Liability insurance with aptitude for developing strong client relationships.
