What Is the Opportunity?

Our Corporate team uses their specialist expertise to offer bespoke insurance solutions to our largest and most complex clients in the UK and Ireland. Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our team in any of our UK or Ireland offices.

In this role, you will be involved from early client engagement through collaboration with colleagues in Risk Control, Claims, and other stakeholders in the UK and US. You’ll be responsible for triaging new business opportunities, developing prospects, leading technical underwriting, and supporting Travelers’ customer proposition. You will manage an allocation of large cross-class renewal accounts and serve as a primary contact for regional underwriting teams, providing technical support for new business and retention with broking partners.

Travelers Europe offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, typically three days in the office and two days remote, subject to policy changes.

This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus. Referral bonuses may also apply if referred by an employee.

What Will You Do?
  • Participate as an advisory/referral point to ensure responsible product development aligned with profit, growth, and retention strategies.
  • Engage actively in key case underwriting and new business development.
  • Mentor and coach underwriting staff to meet standards and profitability goals.
  • Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through visibility and disciplined sales management.
  • Act as a large case expert internally and externally.
  • Assist in determining sector strategy with management.
  • Encourage team efforts to achieve underwriting, sales, and production goals.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships across departments including Head Office, Risk Control, Claims, and Actuarial.
  • Ensure policies are underwritten and documented in compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Support broker/client relationships with strategic engagement and customer service excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Strong analytical, judgment, decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability in broker planning and engagement.
  • Advanced customer focus and broker interaction skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Superior relationship management skills.
  • ACII qualification preferred.
Must Have
  • Experience in underwriting Property and Casualty classes.
  • Significant experience managing large UK corporate clients.
