Job Description


As a trusted underwriter, you'll manage a broad portfolio of international Construction & Engineering risks, combining deep technical expertise with sharp commercial instincts.

  • Salary: £130,000
  • Benefits include a 15% employer contribution pension.
  • Hybrid working model
  • Location:City of London

Responsibilities:

  • Assessing and underwriting new and renewal (re)insurance submissions with a strong focus on profitability and risk selection

  • Negotiating favourable terms with brokers while maintaining underwriting discipline

  • Collaborating closely with global teams across London, Dubai, KL, Casablanca, and Amman to ensure consistent and effective underwriting practices

  • Supporting the Class Underwriter in portfolio management, business planning, and the development of new products and growth strategies

  • Building and maintaining high-trust broker relationships across the UK and international markets

  • Ensuring compliance with FCA guidelines, underwriting procedures, and financial crime prevention standards

  • Participating in marketing efforts and producing class-related content and materials

  • Demonstrating leadership through mentorship, peer reviews, and professional conduct

Skills/Experience required:

  • At least 5 years' experience in Construction & Engineering underwriting or related disciplines

  • CII-qualified (or working toward qualification) and committed to continuous learning

  • Strong analytical and commercial judgement with meticulous attention to detail

  • High-level communication skills and the ability to build credibility with brokers and internal stakeholders

  • Self-starter mentality, capable of managing high volumes and shifting priorities during busy cycles

  • Team-oriented mindset with a customer-first attitude and an appetite for collaboration
