We're looking for a

Senior Underwriter, Cargo

Based in London and reporting to the Head of Cargo, this role will support the underwriting and management of the Cargo account for Syndicate 4000 and HIDAC.

Hamilton Global Specialty is our multi-platform, specialty insurer operating primarily through a Lloyd's Syndicate and Dublin operating company with a managing general agency in the US.

What you will do
  • Support the Head of Cargo in the management of the division ensuring compliance with Business Plan
  • Support the production of the divisional section of a business plan for review and agreement by Underwriting Committee
  • Manage new business opportunities through liaison with brokers, clients and underwriters
  • Underwrite and monitor portfolio
  • Monitor figures, aggregates claims and report accordingly
  • Compliance with Syndicate procedures
  • Travel to maintain client relations and attend relevant conferences
  • Support the monthly reporting to Underwriting Committees
  • Compliance with Lloyd's regulations and Byelaws
  • Act in accordance with all applicable Supervisory Bodies, principles, rules and regulations
  • Liaise effectively with other internal functions such as DUA, Actuarial, Claims, Accounts, FP&A etc
What you require for the role
  • 15 years of class or Lloyd's experience
  • Managing Agency and/or Company market experience (desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of the global Cargo market
  • Previous experience of underwriting successful Cargo portfolio (desirable)
  • Outstanding risk selection capability based upon knowledge and technical expertise
  • Broker relationships which will attract the best quality business (desirable)
  • Excellent organizational & analytical skills
  • Self starter, ability to produce business globally
  • Disciplined approach to underwriting strategy
  • Ability to adapt and thrive within a pressured environment
  • Good communication skills with the ability to liaise at all levels
  • Self motivated and curious
  • Very good interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Capable of working to a timetable when required
