Senior Underwriter, Aviation Direct

Global Specialty Insurance (GSI) is Munich Re´s dedicated entity for all primary Specialty Insurance lines. Within GSI, Aviation Direct is responsible for primary insurance and facultative reinsurance with a global mandate for direct aviation business (our clients are airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and leasing companies). Aviation Direct de facto acts as an insurance company in a challenging and specialized niche market. To add to our team of recognized experts, we are currently looking for an encouraged and motivated Senior Underwriter for our growing Airline segment. The range of activities in this position is varied and encompasses underwriting as well as managing our client and broker relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring excellent underwriting, risk assessment, and the quality of pricing and wording for our worldwide airline business
  • Key account management for important airline clients
  • Actively developing and maintaining client and broker relationships
  • Observing market, industry, and technology trends and assessing the impact of them on our underwriting and pricing methods; this includes making the team aware of these trends and developments
  • Challenging and executing the agreed airline underwriting strategy to ensure the segment can be underwritten profitably
  • Enabling the airline underwriting team to self-organize
  • Showing outstanding commitment to the airline portfolio and taking responsibility for it
  • Exploiting new business, recognizing client needs, actively collaborating on new solutions, and utilizing cross selling potential other Munich Re units

Knowledge and Skills

  • University degree or professional insurance qualifications
  • Several years’ underwriting experience in aviation
  • Deep knowledge of the aviation industry, especially the airline market and clients
  • Strong negotiating skills and proven track record in managing client relationships
  • Genuinely collaborative, team-oriented working approach
  • Willingness to take responsibility and make decisions
  • Fluent business English
  • Willingness to travel
