Job summary

SGS is seeking a Senior Trials Agronomist to lead UK field trials, ensure GLP/GEP standards, and liaise with clients from initial setup to reporting. The role combines science, project management and field leadership in a dynamic environment.

You will oversee field studies, work as Principal Investigator on multiple sites, and mentor seasonal staff while driving continuous improvement across trials.

Qualifications

• Several years' experience in GLP and/or GEP field trials.
• Experience acting as a Principal Investigator.
• Strong client-facing and project management skills.
• PA1 & PA6 qualifications and a full UK driving licence.
• A degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Managing and delivering agricultural field trials across the UK.
• Acting as Principal Investigator on single and multi-site studies.
• Liaising with clients and providing study updates.
• Marking out, assessing, sampling and harvesting trial plots.
• Analyzing and reporting trial data using specialist software.
• Leading and training technicians and seasonal staff.
• Conducting sustainability audits and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Description

Ready to take the lead on cutting‑edge agricultural research? Join SGS and play a key role in delivering field trials that help bring new crop protection, biostimulant, and agricultural products to market.

This is a varied, hands‑on role combining science, agriculture, project management, and client engagement. You'll oversee field studies from setup through to harvest, lead seasonal teams, work closely with growers and clients, and ensure trials are delivered to the highest GLP and GEP standards.

What You'll Be Doing

• Managing and delivering agricultural field trials across the UK.

• Liaising directly with clients and providing study updates.
• Marking out, assessing, sampling, and harvesting trial plots.
• Analysing and reporting trial data using specialist software.
• Leading and training technicians and seasonal staff.
• Conducting sustainability audits and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who already has strong experience within agricultural research and field trials. You may currently be working as a Study Manager, Principal Investigator, Trial Officer, Field Trials Manager, Research Agronomist, or a senior field‑based agricultural research professional.

You’ll bring:

• Several years' experience in GLP and/or GEP field trials.
• Experience acting as a Principal Investigator.
• Strong client‑facing and project management skills.
• PA1 & PA6 qualifications and a full UK driving licence.
• A degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
• A practical, proactive approach and confidence working independently in the field.
• A full UK driving licence.
