Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our Development Planning and Management team in Birmingham or Bristol. The role offers exposure to a varied workload across residential, energy, health and defence sectors, and involves delivering transport assessments, travel plans and associated masterplans for private and public clients.

You will mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and contribute to project fee proposals while maintaining high technical standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in an analytical subject such as Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, Economics or similar.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, SoRSA, CILT, IHE, TPS, ICE).
• Masters degree in a relevant subject is desirable, but not essential.
• Strong background in Development Planning and transport analysis.
• Experience in preparation and ownership of transport assessments, travel plans and similar.
• Proficient in using and analysing data from transportation software packages and producing high-quality reports.
• Experience liaising with clients, local authorities and regulatory bodies; familiarity with the UK planning system.
• Excellent communication skills; ideally member of a relevant professional body.
• Solid track record in transport planning projects with client and local authority interaction.
• Strong presentation and technical writing skills using MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Supporting and delivering Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Masterplans and other technical reports.
• Collaborating with Development Planning team and clients across the development life cycle.
• Mentoring junior staff and ensuring high technical standards, on time and within budget.
• Assisting in fee proposals and ensuring projects meet budget and programme.
• Attending client meetings and negotiating with Local Authorities and regulatory bodies.
