Job description

Location: Remote with flexible working arrangements, all UK-based locations considered. Our flexible office collaboration spaces, for those wishing to use them, are in London, Bristol, Birmingham, and Exeter.

Term/Hours: Permanent. 24-40 hours per week, with flexibility over working pattern - please state in your application.

Due to a healthy pipeline of projects and opportunities, we are seeking an experienced transport modeller and data analyst with a passion for sustainable transport to join the team. Experience in transport modelling both model development and application, use of big data, and an interest in decarbonisation, transport appraisal, and the automation of modelling is important.

We are seeking an experienced transport professional, specialising in strategic transport modelling (Saturn & VISUM), with a background supporting modelling for Local Plans, transport strategies, and business cases.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Due to growth and project wins, we are recruiting a Senior Transport Modeller. The ideal candidate will understand the need to innovate and share our passion for decarbonisation.

The role involves contributing to a wide range of transport modelling projects and managing medium-sized projects. Responsibilities include conducting transport modelling, leading technical reports, overseeing junior staff, and coordinating data analysis. There are also opportunities to work across projects in transport, energy, sustainability, and carbon accounting.

You will help grow our business through delivering projects, identifying new opportunities, and contributing to tenders. Opportunities to present at industry conferences are available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Senior Modeller, your responsibilities include:

  • Delivering transport modelling requirements (mainly VISUM and Saturn) and overseeing other modellers' tasks.
  • Sharing best practices, tools, and style guidance.
  • Autonomous delivery of service line tasks, analysis, and content.
  • Supporting and leading smaller tenders and frameworks.
  • Championing internal collaboration and City Science behaviours.

This includes:

Project Delivery & Management
  • Delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Managing your own contributions and small projects, including task allocation and resource monitoring.
  • Coordinating site visits to observe transport networks.
Technical
  • Developing and applying strategic multi-modal models (VISUM, CUBE, EMME).
  • Traffic modelling using Saturn and micro-simulation with VISSIM.
  • Supporting technical report production.
  • Reviewing policies and best practices.
  • Identifying future interventions and supporting appraisal processes.
  • Data analysis (behavioral analysis, forecasting).
  • Creating graphics and visualisations in GIS and Cadence.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Producing reports, graphics, and visualisations.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and technical workshops.
Business Development
  • Supporting bids, proposals, and campaigns.
  • Market analysis and thought leadership.

ESSENTIAL

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Passion for sustainability and transport modelling.
  • MSc or equivalent in relevant fields.
  • Data analysis skills (e.g., Python, GIS).
  • Experience with transport modelling software (VISUM, Saturn, CUBE, EMME, Vissim).
  • Industry awareness (professional memberships).
  • Knowledge of relevant guidance (e.g., TAG).
