Job summary

Syntech Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Transmission Test & Development Engineer near Leamington Spa. The role focuses on leading testing and development of transmissions and driveline systems, with hands-on work on test rigs and data acquisition to deliver validated designs.

You will plan performance, durability and NVH tests, analyse results, and collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to drive improvements in powertrain systems.

Qualifications

• Experience in transmission, gearbox, driveline or powertrain test and development.
• Strong mechanical engineering background with automotive focus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.
• Experience with test rigs, dynos or similar equipment and data acquisition.

Responsibilities

• Lead testing and development of transmissions, gearboxes and driveline systems.
• Plan and carry out test programmes covering performance, durability and NVH.
• Operate transmission and powertrain test rigs / dynamometers.
• Set up test equipment, instrumentation, sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Assemble, install and align transmission systems onto test rigs.
• Analyse test data and identify performance or reliability issues.
• Investigate component and system failures and support root cause analysis.
• Develop and improve test methods, procedures and facilities.
• Support validation of new transmission and driveline designs.
• Produce technical reports and communicate test results clearly.
• Collaborate with Design, Development and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

Senior Transmission Test & Development Engineer Duties

• Lead testing and development of transmissions, gearboxes and driveline systems.
• Plan and carry out test programmes covering performance, efficiency, durability and NVH.
• Operate transmission and powertrain test rigs / dynamometers.
• Set up test equipment, instrumentation, sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Assemble, install and align transmission systems onto test rigs.
• Analyse test data and identify performance or reliability issues.
• Investigate component and system failures and support root cause analysis.
• Develop and improve test methods, procedures and test facilities.
• Support validation of new transmission and driveline designs.
• Produce technical reports and clearly communicate test results.
• Work closely with Design, Development and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers within the test function.

Senior Transmission Test & Development Engineer Requirements

• Previous experience within transmission, gearbox, driveline or powertrain test and development.
• Strong mechanical engineering background.
• Experience working with test rigs, dynos or similar mechanical test equipment.
• Understanding of transmission and driveline systems and components.
• Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition.
• Ability to analyse test data and diagnose mechanical or system issues.
• Experience carrying out performance, durability or validation testing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Automotive, motorsport, transmission, gearbox or specialist powertrain experience would be highly advantageous.
• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience within Mechanical, Automotive or a related engineering discipline
