LAST YEAR WE CELEBRATED 20 YEARS OF OUR TRANSFUSION MEDICINE SERVICE AT THE ROYAL VETERINARY COLLEGE'S QUEEN MOTHER HOSPITAL! We are growing our RVN team and currently have an exciting opportunity to work in our friendly multidisciplinary referral hospital. This rare opportunity is perfect for an experienced RVN keen to develop their leadership skills and specialise as a member of a successful Transfusion Medicine Service (TMS) in the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals. Our TMS is one of the busiest in the world, we perform 500-800 blood transfusions a year, helping to save the lives of hundreds of pets.

As an RVN within the service, the role includes taking blood donations, liaising with blood donor owners, and coordinating transfusions of blood products to support the treatment of patients throughout the hospital. Our successful candidate will be highly organised and an excellent communicator as you will be liaising with blood donor owners and a range of colleagues daily. As a senior nurse within the department, you will support the Head Transfusion Medicine RVN and Head of Service with the day-to-day running of the service and team. You'll be joining a supportive, passionate team who collaborate with colleagues across the hospital to deliver excellent care for our patients.

The role also involves representing the service at events to raise awareness and recruit new donors to the programme. Referral experience is not a requirement as specialist training and support will be provided. However, experience working with Emergency & Critical Care patients monitoring transfusions, advanced phlebotomy skills and/or leadership experience is desirable. This role may be appointed at RVN or Senior RVN level depending on experience, with scope for development and future progression. Starting salary banding for a non-senior role would be £31,829-£34,430 per annum.

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, with 1:4 Saturdays and a share of bank holidays. A degree of flexibility will be required in the rota/shift patterns to support the service.

We offer a generous reward package including:

  • Competitive and attractive pension package
  • Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays/concessionary days) pro-rata
  • Access to free in-house CPD and funded external CPD
  • Access to campus library
  • A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave
  • On site café and restaurant
  • Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and Pilates classes included)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus
