Job summary

Network Rail is seeking a Senior Asset Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and strategic asset management for the Track discipline. You will support the Head of Asset (Track) and translate asset condition, risk and whole-life cost into prioritised maintenance plans.

Qualifications

  • Incorporated Engineer
  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Detailed understanding of the maintenance of Track assets
  • Knowledge of relevant technical, safety and performance standards
  • Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
  • Holds a valid UK driving licence, or willing to obtain
  • Chartered engineer
  • Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance
  • Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities

Responsibilities

  • Provide Track systems engineering input to determine appropriate maintenance regimes and activity volumes.
  • Provide a comprehensive systems engineering support service across Track asset base and regions, improving technical competence.
  • Deliver technical briefings to engineers to ensure understanding of standards and specifications.
  • Review derogation and non-compliance applications to Track systems engineering standards.
  • Monitor improvements to Track systems from delivery units and provide feedback.
  • Carry out asset condition inspections informing the Track asset database and renewals work bank.
  • Advise on prioritized Track systems renewal proposals for delivery units.
  • Lead Track engineering where required in assurance processes and verifications.
  • Monitor reliability and performance of Track systems assets and drive corrective actions.
  • Contribute to route asset management plans and incident investigations.
  • Contribute to revised standards and policies for Track assets.
  • Assist in review/acceptance of engineering project designs as required
