Qualifications

  • CCT in paediatric surgery or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on experience in neonatal, general paediatric, thoracic, and upper GI surgery.
  • Participate in the middle grade rota and daily ward rounds.
  • Perform thoracoscopic and laparoscopic procedures in infants and children.
  • Gain exposure to congenital conditions including oesophageal atresia and diaphragmatic hernia.
  • Develop upper GI endoscopic and interventional skills.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Thoracic and Upper Gastrointestinal Fellow to join our team for a 12-month post, accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

This fellowship is open to post-CCT candidates or ST8 trainees working towards specific CCT sign-off targets. The role offers advanced clinical experience in a specialist setting, with opportunities to develop expertise in complex thoracic and upper GI paediatric surgery.

Ideal for candidates seeking to consolidate subspecialty skills within a leading paediatric surgical unit.

About You:

  • Registered Medical Practitioner with MRCS, FRCS, or equivalent.

  • Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

Interviews expected to be held Wednesday 5th November 2025.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Paediatric Surgery Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will include

  • Provide hands-on experience in neonatal, general paediatric, thoracic, and upper GI surgery

  • Participate in the middle grade rota and daily ward rounds

  • Perform thoracoscopic and laparoscopic procedures in infants and children

  • Gain exposure to congenital conditions including oesophageal atresia and diaphragmatic hernia

  • Develop upper GI endoscopic and interventional skills

  • Collaborate across surgical, ICU, ward, and theatre teams

  • Engage in MDTs across key specialties including Radiology, Thoracic, Oncology, and Gastroenterology

  • Complete a clinical research project with opportunities for presentation and publication

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Registered with General Medical Council

  • MRCS, FRCS or equivalent.

  • ATLS and/or APLS provider or instructor
