Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic Senior Therapy Assistant to join the stroke therapy service at Peterborough City Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who really wants to make a difference and develop their knowledge and skills within stroke rehabilitation.


Our stroke therapy team is made of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and support workers who assess and treat people in the hyperacute and acute stroke units at Peterborough Hospital and in stroke rehabilitation beds at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The post is mainly at Peterborough City Hospital; however, flexibility will be required to provide cross-site cover. This is a fast-paced and exciting role working to support stroke survivors who present with a wide range of needs following their stroke. Regular supervision and development opportunities will be provided.


Weekend working will be required. There will be a practical element to the interview, so candidates will need to be available to attend for an interview at Peterborough City Hospital. Please note interviews will be conducted face to face.


Main duties of the job
  1. Supporting the therapists to provide rehabilitation based on the findings of their assessments.
  2. Supporting patients with physical exercise and activity aimed at improving transfers, mobility balance and upper limb function.
  3. Supporting the occupational therapists with rehabilitation of cognitive and visual perceptual difficulties.
  4. Completing practice of functional tasks delegated by the therapists to support the stroke survivor to optimise their functional abilities.
  5. Assisting the multidisciplinary team with discharge planning, including equipment provision.
  6. Assisting other therapy staff on visits to patient’s homes, aimed at assessing their discharge needs.
  7. Administrative duties.
