Job Description:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Therapist for Children & Young People, where you will join a leading CQC registered provider of Community Health Services in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This is a permanent role which can be full-time or part-time. A full job specification will be sent to you upon application.

About the company: Our client and the Nottinghamshire CCG are working together to deliver an Emotional Wellbeing Early Support Service for Children and Young People. This transformative service will play a central role in system change, bringing previously separate services into one, supporting children and young people to experience good mental health and emotional wellbeing by providing timely, integrated, high-quality, and accessible multidisciplinary support tailored to individual needs.

About the role: As a Senior Therapist for Children & Young People, you will deliver person-centred, outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties to support their emotional health and resilience. This includes individual and group work, assisting with the single point of access, providing guided self-help, 1-1 counselling, group sessions, and facilitating peer support.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will utilize analytical skills, specialist knowledge, and experience to provide comprehensive assessments and formulate the presenting problems, considering factors such as educational attainment, developmental stage, emotional wellbeing, family dynamics, social context, and broader environmental factors. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing short-term interventions based on behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic, and systemic perspectives as indicated by assessments and evidence base.
  • Delivering therapeutic interventions independently, including one-off or short-term sessions.
  • Developing group work or play therapy as alternatives to one-to-one work.
  • Facilitating peer support among children and young people.
  • Providing information, advice, guidance, and support through the single point of access.
  • Maintaining confidential case records securely and promptly.
  • Building links with other agencies for signposting and referrals.
  • Managing risks and responding proactively to safeguarding issues.
  • Engaging effectively with children and young people according to their needs.
  • Ensuring young people feel heard, respected, and in control.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registration with a recognized national professional body (HCPC, NMC, BACP, BABCP, BASW, TRA), or holding therapy qualifications such as CBT.
  • Confidence in supporting children and young people with mild to moderate risk behaviours.
  • Knowledge of psychodynamic, systemic, cognitive, and behavioural therapeutic principles.
  • Understanding of child and family development and transitions.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to safeguarding concerns.

About you: To succeed as a Senior Therapist, you should have:

  • Experience and qualification as a mental health practitioner in fast-paced environments supporting teams of counsellors.
  • Experience working with children and young people in early intervention or mental health settings, with family engagement.
  • Confidence in supporting interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate risk behaviors.
  • Ability to build strong therapeutic relationships quickly.
  • Open-mindedness, respectfulness, commitment to equality and inclusiveness, and motivation for new ideas.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

Rewards: The role offers a competitive salary of £28,000 - £32,000 per annum (pro-rata), depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include:

  • 33 days annual leave, including Bank Holidays, increasing with service length.
