Job Summary

We are excited to offer Fixed Term Band 6 positions, to commence asap. The posts are fixed term to meet the needs of the service and location will be determined at recruitment (VCC Cardiff or V@NHRU Abergavenny). The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. This post is fixed term/secondment for 1x 6 months 2x 12 months to cover maternity leave, from start date. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job
  • To work in all areas of the radiotherapy department i.e. on treatment units and in the pre-treatment area, carrying out accurate and consistent pre-treatment and treatment techniques.
  • To help organise the work load in the various functions of the department and take responsibility for training and supervising more junior radiographers and students.
  • To deputise in the role of team leader in the absence of the Band 7 radiographer, as required.
  • To be part of a large multi‑disciplinary team and to be involved in the total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy.
  • To work flexibly according to the demands of the service, including weekends and across more than one site.
  • To participate in out of hours and on‑call working as required.

Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
  • BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or Diploma of B.Sc. (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR (T) College of Radiographers DCR (T), or Post Graduate Diploma in Radiotherapy
  • Registration with Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of CPD (continuing professional development) gained through short courses or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
  • Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues
  • Full knowledge of radiation regulations

  • Evidence of further study to Masters Level

  • Significant knowledge of radiotherapy acquired by rotating through all aspects of radiotherapy involving the whole range of highly specialised and highly complex radiotherapy equipment
