Job summary

Compass Therapeutic Services seeks a Senior Therapeutic Pastoral Lead to oversee a team of up to 6 TPLs across partner schools, ensuring consistent therapeutic practice and holistic development for each child.

You will work systemically with Education Service, provide virtual supervision and occasional visits to schools, with potential to increase direct hours as priorities demand. A driving licence and willingness to travel are required.

Qualifications

• Evidence of therapeutic training and CPD progress.
• Attainment of a psychological/counselling course.
• Level 5 in Management or equivalent desirable.
• Strong supervisory and leading abilities.
• Experience with SEMH and complex trauma in children.
• Excellent written communication and English fluency.
• Ability to influence practice within a team.
• Experience running groups with young people.
• Driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally.

About The Role

Compass Community is an independent therapeutic agency caring, educating, and supporting nearly 2,000 children and young people through Fostering, Residential Homes and Education. We pride ourselves on attending to the social, emotional, cognitive, and sensorial needs of all our young people.

Therapeutic Services at Compass has an embedded record of successful evidence of our Assessing and Healing Complex Trauma (AHCT) approach which has already made a difference to the lives of 100’s of young people.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Therapeutic Pastoral Lead, whose professional background and training is underpinned by theories of working with trauma, attachment and loss. You will have good working knowledge in supporting children and young people in the Care sector.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To ensure the consistency of the Therapeutic Pastoral Lead role across other AHCT Education settings by overseeing and supporting a team of up to 6 FT or equivalent TPLs in other schools. This is achieved by virtual individual supervision, occasional group meetings and face to face visits to each school. This is to achieve the effective and holistic therapeutic development of every young person.

Work systemically in collaboration with Education Service to ensure that children, young people and staff are always front of mind, receiving outstanding levels of therapeutic intervention, guidance and training.

TPL based role within designated school, one day/8 hours per week, and includes the potential increase of up to 40 hours of direct TPL specific role in any one week if priorities of the needs of the service demand it on occasion. This will be reviewed through on-going discussion with Therapeutic Development Manager.

Essential Criteria:

• Evidence of Therapeutic Training/Qualifications / CPD progress
• Attainment of a psychological/counselling course.
• Level 5 in Management or Equivalent is desirable
• Strong guiding, supervisory and leading abilities.
• Minimum two years’ experience of working with children with SEMH needs and complex trauma.
• Evidence of literary ability to Level 5/A level standard.
• The ability to influence good practice within a team.
• A good delivery of training style for small groups of staff.
• Ability to work within a professional multiagency environment
• Strong understanding of Attachment and Loss.
• Active, energetic, creative, outgoing and empathic character.
• Good Communicator and Fluent English speaking.
• Experience of running groups with young people.
• Experience of assessment in intervention
• Understanding responsibilities in protecting their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of their colleagues and others.
• Full Driving Licence and aptitude to travel and stay away from home on occasions.
