Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is looking for a Senior Engine Test Technician in Millbrook, England. In this hands-on role, you will oversee engine test operations, validate systems, and collaborate with engineers to enhance high-profile projects in internal combustion technology. Qualifications

• Strong understanding of petrol and diesel engine systems.
• Confident in diagnosing faults and working with engine support equipment.
• Background in automotive, mechanical, or testing environments.
• Basic mechanical and fabrication skills.
• Familiarity with test automation tools (e.g. AVL PUMA, Horiba STARS).
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport.

Responsibilities

• Leading engine installation, instrumentation, and test cell setup.
• Validating engine systems and support equipment for safe and accurate operation.
• Running both automated and manual test cycles, including advanced testing with engineering support.
• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Performing servicing, hardware changes, and taking ownership of test pieces.
• Collaborating with Engineers, Supervisors, and customers for smooth project delivery.
• Supporting continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and quality.

Skills

Strong understanding of petrol and diesel engine systems

Confident in diagnosing faults

Background in automotive, mechanical, or testing environments

Basic mechanical and fabrication skills

Familiarity with test automation tools (e.g. AVL PUMA, Horiba STARS)

Permanent contract – Site Based – Bedford

Shift Work: Mornings (06:00–14:00), or Afternoons (14:00–22:00), or Days (08:00–16:30)

• As a Senior Engine Test Technician, you’ll play a vital role in delivering complex ICE development programmes. Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading engine installation, instrumentation, and test cell setup
