About the Role

The Senior Telecoms and Voice engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of voice communication systems. They play a vital role in supporting and optimising voice network performance, ensuring high-quality voice services, and troubleshooting complex infrastructure. As part of the role, they will carry out customer voice implementations, build and maintain hosted and dedicated PBXs, manage SBCs, call routing and unified communications infrastructure. They provide expert technical support, create and maintain detailed documentation, and stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies. This role involves close collaboration across the business to identify and resolve telecommunications issues, support service levels across various technologies, and ensure compliance with best practices, policies, and service level agreements (SLAs). Additionally, they will contribute to the successful delivery of new communication systems, working alongside infrastructure engineers and consultants to implement robust, high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain voice communication systems, including call center solutions, hosted voice services, and call recording systems.
  • Perform a broad range of support activities in adherence to prescribed service levels across various network and communication technologies, such as VoIP telephony systems, Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, and unified communication applications.
  • Provide engineering support for the design, configuration, and deployment of new communication systems into production to support both new business requirements and existing service contracts.
  • Conduct a wide array of build and configuration tasks across multiple communication technologies.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE-level or above and holds relevant professional/industry certifications(s).

Required Skills

  • Demonstrates good inter-personal and communications skills.
  • Is well organised and practical, with a logical, analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Pays careful, close attention to detail.
  • Has a good level of understanding of the design, configuration and support of voice, data and internet communications systems and has acquired specialist expertise in several areas.
  • An excellent understanding of VOIP and network protocols, including but not limited to SIP/RTP/TCP/UDP.
  • Proficiency with network sniffer technologies and capture tools e.g. wireshark.
  • Good exposure to unified communications applications, including but not limited to softphone, mobile app, SMS.
