Senior Technology Project Manager (Scientific Research & Innovation)

£50,000 - £60,000 (+ Benefits)

Reports to: Lead Project Manager

Contract: 12 month fixed-term contract

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

Cancer Research UK's Technology team plays a crucial role in driving modern change initiatives and programs across the organisation. This role will join our Scientific Research & Innovation product portfolio responsible for delivering the best digital products and solutions for our lifesaving researchers and clinicians.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will play an impactful role in leading and delivering technological change in collaboration with our Cancer Research Horizons Therapeutic Innovation Teams. This will involve ensuring the end-to-end delivery of projects under a broader programme of work focused on streamlining and modernising the operational data infrastructure and technology to best support our research scientists and drive forward therapeutic innovation. You will facilitate teamwork and delivery, providing quality stakeholder engagement and reporting to the Programme Manager on timeframes and budgets.

What will I be doing?

• Facilitating and leading the end-to-end project plan, implementation, and approach to delivery, ensuring consideration of technical and user change and support.
• Collaborating with Sponsor, Business Owner(s), and programme team to clearly define project vision, outcomes, key milestones, decisions, and project roadmap.
• Helping to resolve blockers and communicating effectively across organisational, technical, and internal boundaries.
• Facilitating effective decision-making at pace by collaborating with Technology specialists and discipline teams within Scientific Research & Innovation.
• Gathering and synthesizing data to enable investment decisions and facilitating the development of investment and benefits cases.
• Identifying and planning project resource needs, governance, and structure.
• Managing project budgets, forecasting, and tracking external and internal project resources while providing regular reporting on project cost, benefits, and status.
• Ensuring there is cross-organisational engagement with the programme by maintaining strong relationships, lines of communication, and presenting at relevant forums.
• Applying an Agile mindset to effectively deliver the programme while ensuring appropriate governance.

What skills will I need?

• Experienced Technology Project Manager with a background in delivering projects and change programmes within scientific research, life sciences, or clinical environments.
• Demonstrable knowledge of scientific or clinical technology solutions with experience delivering data projects.
• Experience working with an Agile mindset and the project lifecycle within different methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall).
• Proven experience working with scientific or clinical research stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others effectively, articulate a case for change, and gain stakeholder support.
• Promotes collaboration and individual responsibility without directly managing people.
