About the job.

National Highways has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technology Engineer to join our team in the Midlands. As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical expertise in identifying and evaluating technology asset needs and early solutions, ensuring adherence to asset policies and standards.

This position is based in Birmingham or Nottingham, with a mix of remote and office work.

Note: You will be required to drive as part of your role. Candidates must have no more than 3 points on their driving license to be considered.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop early solutions for improvements or renewals, including compiling relevant documents, evidence, and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  2. Identify, prepare briefs, and manage survey works supporting asset improvements or renewals.
  3. Develop the regional asset-led forward programme and initial scheme development.
  4. Provide technical support to Project Managers, including materials approvals, vetting contractor compliance, on-site inspections, and reviewing health and safety files.
  5. Review third-party designs for compliance with design and maintenance standards.
  6. Undertake feasibility studies, investigations, and research to find innovative solutions.
About you.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, member of a relevant professional body, with appropriate experience.
  • Degree or HND in a related discipline with relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems).
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highway network.
