Job summary

Kier Group plc. is seeking a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead highways technology design across ITS, communications and power systems. You will own outputs from concept to implementation, drive right-first-time delivery and ensure integration with civil, electrical and systems teams.

You will act as technical authority, guide design assurance activities, manage risk, and engage with clients and stakeholders while mentoring engineers to build capability and a high-performance culture.

Qualifications

• Experience as highways technology engineer with ITS expertise.
• Proven ability to lead design delivery and assurance activities.
• Knowledge of National Highways standards (DMRB) and governance frameworks.
• Degree or HNC in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering.

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead the delivery and assurance of highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programmes.

You'll act as a technical authority, owning design outputs from concept through to implementation, driving right-first-time delivery, and ensuring solutions are compliant, integrated and future-ready. Working across multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in delivering ITS, communications and smart infrastructure systems aligned to National Highways standards., Lead technology design packages across ITS, communications and power systems?

What will you be responsible for?

• Take ownership of design outputs from concept through to implementation?
• Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical and systems teams?
• Lead design assurance, reviews and compliance with governance frameworks?
• Communicate technical risks and solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders?
• Leading the delivery of complex technology design (ITS, communications, power) from concept through to implementation
• Owning design outputs, ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable and right-first-time
• Acting as technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks and gateway approvals
• Ensuring compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards, managing technical risk
• Providing SME leadership across ITS, communications networks and smart infrastructure systems
• Driving multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical and systems teams
• Acting as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagement
• Supporting programme delivery through reporting on progress, risk and performance
• Driving continuous improvement, digital engineering and BIM adoption
• Leading input into bids and developing innovative, compliant and competitive solutions
• Mentoring and developing engineers, building team capability and high-performance culture
• HNC/Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent relevant field?
• An experienced highways technology engineer with strong ITS expertise?
• Confident leading design delivery and technical assurance activities?
• Knowledgeable in National Highways standards (e.g. DMRB) and governance frameworks?
• Comfortable acting as a technical authority across complex projects?
• A strong leader who can mentor and develop engineers?, Are Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering
• Have significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design
• Have proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities
• Have strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks
