This is a great opportunity to work in a quality-focused team, within a state-of-the-art Metrology Laboratory & Remote measurement team based at Whitley. The role of Senior Metrology Technician sits within the Powertrain Metrology team which is part of Engineering Operations – Powertrain Build & Test (EO-10). The Metrology Team’s function is to support Product Engineering in their objective of creating world class quality vehicles, this is done by providing a world class Metrology service.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The successful applicant will be required to work in the Metrology laboratory & remotely at JLR sites based on business needs. They will join a multi-skilled team of Engineers and Metrology Technicians in delivering the following:

  • Measurement of a multitude of Automotive components using specified measurement equipment
  • Daily activities to support operation of the Metrology laboratory
  • Producing comprehensive measurement reports
  • Supporting verification activities such as internal MSA, SPC using QDAS
  • Technical support to customers, including supporting problem investigations on dimensional equipment in areas outside the lab
  • Creation of process / procedures
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

  • Proficient in portable measuring equipment i.e. Romer, Leica Tracker, GOM, Polyworks
  • Experience in programming CMMs using PC-DMIS, Calypso or Quindos
  • Programming surface texture measurement machines – Desirable
  • First principal measuring equipment (Micrometres, verniers, height gauge etc)
  • Can proficiently read and interpret engineering drawings (GD&T)
  • Computer literate i.e. Excel, PowerPoint & other Microsoft applications
  • Understanding or familiarity with automotive systems, practices and procedures (ISO/IATF 16949, ISO 17025, etc.)
