Brockenhurst College has an opportunity for a Senior Technician - Marine/Site to join the team on a part-time, annualised hours basis at our Marchwood Site. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,764-£26,039 pro rata.
We are a high-achieving college attracting around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. Located within the stunning New Forest Park, we offer a wide range of courses and superb facilities.
As our Senior Technician, you will:
- Support a team of technicians by offering guidance and mentoring where applicable.
- Be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the Marchwood site, liaising with the estates team and external contractors to oversee maintenance and servicing of the site's infrastructure.
- Support lecturing staff in course delivery, advising students on techniques, and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment.
- Prepare, set up, clear away, wash up where applicable, and store equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations.
- Maintain workshop areas in a safe and functional state.
- Issue tools and equipment safely to students and staff.
- Assist students and staff in Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, Boatbuilding, and Composites areas, including occasional physical demonstrations of machines.
- Construct, maintain, fault-find, repair, and service marine equipment, arranging repairs with the Head of Curriculum.
- Assist in developing new equipment and workshop activities.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Appropriate qualification in Marine Engineering – Level 3 or equivalent.
- Ability to manage learners effectively.
- Working knowledge of the sector, either on board ships or in shipyards/boatyards.
- Ability to develop effective learning resources.
- Knowledge of current curriculum developments and health and safety requirements.
- Effective communication skills and team spirit.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, manage pressure, and organize effectively.
- Supportive, enthusiastic, and energetic approach.
- Competence in using ICT and other applications.
