Job description

Job Description

Brockenhurst College has an opportunity for a Senior Technician - Marine/Site to join the team on a part-time, annualised hours basis at our Marchwood Site. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,764-£26,039 pro rata.

We are a high-achieving college attracting around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. Located within the stunning New Forest Park, we offer a wide range of courses and superb facilities.

As our Senior Technician, you will:
  1. Support a team of technicians by offering guidance and mentoring where applicable.
  2. Be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the Marchwood site, liaising with the estates team and external contractors to oversee maintenance and servicing of the site's infrastructure.
  3. Support lecturing staff in course delivery, advising students on techniques, and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment.
  4. Prepare, set up, clear away, wash up where applicable, and store equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations.
  5. Maintain workshop areas in a safe and functional state.
  6. Issue tools and equipment safely to students and staff.
  7. Assist students and staff in Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, Boatbuilding, and Composites areas, including occasional physical demonstrations of machines.
  8. Construct, maintain, fault-find, repair, and service marine equipment, arranging repairs with the Head of Curriculum.
  9. Assist in developing new equipment and workshop activities.
Responsibilities include:

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Appropriate qualification in Marine Engineering – Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Ability to manage learners effectively.
  • Working knowledge of the sector, either on board ships or in shipyards/boatyards.
  • Ability to develop effective learning resources.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum developments and health and safety requirements.
  • Effective communication skills and team spirit.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, manage pressure, and organize effectively.
  • Supportive, enthusiastic, and energetic approach.
  • Competence in using ICT and other applications.
