The full-time starting salary is normally £35,331 per annum, with progression available in post to £39,002 per annum.

Grade: E

Contract: 4 x Full-time, permanent positions available.

Birmingham City University has a rich history of almost two centuries, shaping lives and redefining a city through practice-based learning, research, and enterprise activities. We are seeking four Senior Technicians to support our specialist programmes in workshops, labs, and studio spaces.

The roles focus on:

  • Jewellery Making: craft, material experimentation, silversmithing, stone setting, laser welding, polishing
  • Jewellery Machining: operating lathes, milling machines, maintaining workshop machinery
  • Jewellery CAD/CAM: digital design, 3D printing, CNC processes, software like SolidWorks, MatrixGold, Rhino
  • Jewellery Processes: casting, enamelling, plating, safety procedures (COSHH)

The successful candidates will:

  • Train students and demonstrate techniques
  • Maintain equipment and schedule servicing
  • Manage materials and safety documentation
  • Manage bookings and equipment loans
  • Promote sustainable working methods

Requirements include a degree or equivalent, practical jewellery production experience, excellent communication skills, and IT proficiency. Essential experience varies by focus area, including operating manual machinery, digital design software, and traditional jewellery techniques. Desirable qualifications include CAD software knowledge and safety certifications.
