Job summary

Heriot-Watt University is seeking a Senior Technician for the Interior Architecture & Design team in Galashiels. The role supports student groups, runs specialist skills workshops and assists in studio delivery.

Work largely autonomously with academic colleagues and students, planning work areas, maintaining safety and assisting with equipment and stock management. It is a fixed-term, part-time appointment for 10 months.

Qualifications

• Educated to SCQF Level 7-8 (HNC/HND) OR an Apprenticeship in a relevant subject PLUS relevant work experience.
• Demonstrable knowledge and skills in Interior Architecture and Design.
• IT literacy and ability to use relevant specialist software packages for Interior Architecture and Design.
• Ability to plan and organise assigned projects/programmes of work, managing expectations with students, academic staff, and team colleagues.
• Demonstrable ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment.
• Demonstrable understanding and experience of relevant health and safety protocols/requirements and of ensuring compliance.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of Interior Architecture and Design classes, studio sessions and tutorials.
• Establish relationships to understand user needs and prioritise requirements.
• Plan, set up and prepare work areas according to course leader requirements.
• Maintain a safe working environment and assist in stock and equipment management.
• Mentor and train less experienced colleagues.
• Obtain quotations for equipment or services and monitor expenditures.
