Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is looking for an experienced Senior Technician to support design and engineering for various projects in highways, drainage, and civil infrastructure. This role involves ensuring quality engineering outputs aligned with industry standards and conducting site visits.

The ideal candidate should possess a Level 3 qualification in a STEM subject and experience with relevant software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Strong communication skills and the ability to guide technical staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in engineering technician role.
• Demonstrable progress towards professional qualifications such as EngTech.
• Understanding of highway engineering principles and design techniques.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our expanding North West and Midlands Roads business at WSP. This role involves design and engineering support for a diverse range of projects, including highways, drainage, and civil infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Production of technical engineering information, ensuring the quality of our products is in line with industry standards.
• Lead on CAD quality across the team to ensure high standards across our project portfolio.
• Support design development by applying your expertise in highways, drainage, and civil infrastructure projects; provide guidance and support to technical staff.
• Conduct site visits and investigations to gather information critical to successful project design.
• Apply safe systems of working and contribute to risk assessments.

Qualifications

• Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, and/or OpenRoads.
• Level 3 qualification (or above) in a STEM‑based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role.
• Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress.
• Understanding of highway engineering principles, including design techniques, standards, and procedures, with the ability to apply this knowledge to small‑scale projects or a limited number of moderately complex projects.
• Experience of data handling with MS Excel and/or other data‑based systems.
• Good communication skills dealing with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives, and the public.
• Ability to upskill others in the use of software and the ‘art of engineering drawings’.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
