Job description

Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Technical Writer supporting the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s C3I and Infrastructure Division (AFLCMC/HNI), located at Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA.

The C3I and Infrastructure Division delivers critical communications infrastructure, enterprise policy, and technical support to more than 110 Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve installations worldwide. This role supports HNI’s documentation, communication, and publication needs across the program lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Translate complex technical, scientific, and policy information into clear, concise, and accurate documentation for a variety of audiences.
  • Prepare original content for manuals, technical reports, procedures, specifications, presentations, white papers, and policy documents.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, program managers, vendors, and stakeholders to gather technical information and develop specifications.
  • Develop and manage documentation such as how-to guides, user manuals, maintenance guides, and training materials.
  • Ensure technical accuracy, logical sequencing, tone, and adherence to formatting and style guidelines for all materials.
  • Use desktop publishing tools to draft, format, edit, and prepare content for print and digital distribution.
  • Review, revise, and finalize documentation for consistency, completeness, and compliance with agency standards.
  • Coordinate with publishing personnel to manage document layout, design, and production.
  • Maintain an electronic library of signed and finalized documentation; provide updated editions as needed.
  • Support the creation of product announcements, marketing brochures, and other customer-facing materials.
  • Analyze system drawings, mockups, specifications, and sample products to inform documentation.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and forms to accompany written content.
  • Create and maintain tables of contents, source citations, and document control artifacts.
  • Provide version control and ensure consistency across multiple related documents.
  • Submit drafts for management review and incorporate feedback as necessary.

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance:

Education:

  • BA/BS degree and 15 years of technical writing experience, 5 years of which must be in the DoD
  • OR
  • 20 years of directly related experience with appropriate certifications as described in the Functionally Aligned Job Descriptions, 8 years of which must be in the DoD

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Advanced degree (MA/MS) and 12 years of technical writing experience, 5 years of which must be in the DoD

Technical Skills

  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); familiarity with MS Project and Access
  • Experience using desktop publishing and documentation management systems
  • Familiarity with document formatting, layout, and structured content development
  • Knowledge of C3I systems and environments is a plus

  • Exceptional attention to detail and command of the English language
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to translate technical language into clear guidance for various audiences

Location: Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA
