Job description

Role: Senior Technical Safety Engineer

Location: Basingstoke, UK

Duration: 12 Months minimum

Rate: £Negotiable

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week

SmartWorking (Hybrid Working)

Our client operates a SmartWorking policy allowing personnel to work for up to 12 working days/month from home or a similar secure UK location. These days can be available even during leave periods, typically resulting in around 60% remote work opportunity.

Description of Project/Role and Main Responsibilities

A Senior Engineer with expertise in technical safety is needed to support various projects, reporting to the Project Discipline Lead Engineer.

Projects range from Feasibility to Basic Design and FEED stages, involving onshore/offshore oil/gas facilities, with a focus on LNG and renewable energy facilities.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Perform analysis, calculations, and engineering studies, producing technical safety deliverables in accordance with company standards, procedures, and international codes/standards. Experience in Loss Prevention Activities (e.g., F&G Design, Fire Protection, Hazardous Area Classification), Risk Analysis (QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, Flare/Vent Studies), HSE Philosophies, RAM Studies, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessment.
  • Supervise activities of assigned subordinates to ensure adherence to technical standards and project schedules.
  • Review and approve documents and drawings produced by team members.
  • Provide technical guidance to colleagues on safety design requirements.
  • Coordinate interfaces within disciplines and across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in developing company standards and procedures.
  • Assist in estimating manhours and planning for proposals and projects.
  • Stay updated with technological developments, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL assessments.

Candidate's qualifications, professional experience, and skills required for the position

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field, accredited by a relevant chartered engineering institute (e.g., IChemE).
  • Chartered Engineer status or certified process safety practitioner preferred.
