Most Technical Managers don’t actually want to spend their day sat in meetings, “strategising” and polishing PowerPoints. They want to be on the factory floor. Close to the action. Solving problems before they become problems.

If that sounds like you, keep reading. This is a Site Technical Lead role with a food manufacturer who supplies into the big retailers. And when I say “big retailers” I mean M&S and Tesco. If you’ve never dealt with them before, this isn’t the job for you.

They need someone who’s confident in front of those customers, but equally at home in hairnet and boots, leading the technical agenda across the site. That means making sure the basics - quality, hygiene, GMP - are nailed every day, while also pushing for better. Better processes, better standards, better results.

It’s not a desk job. You’ll be hands-on, visible, and involved. You’ll lead and develop a large technical team, but you’ll also be the one who rolls up your sleeves when something goes wrong. Because that’s what this kind of role takes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical agenda across the site and ensure delivery against quality, hygiene, and GMP standards.
• Be hands-on on the factory floor, solving problems before they become issues.
• Lead and develop a large technical team; roll up your sleeves when something goes wrong.
• Maintain confidence in front of major retailers (M&S and Tesco) and manage customer-facing activities as required.
• Drive continuous improvements in processes, standards, and results across the site.

A large food manufacturing group, not caught up in corporate politics, supplying some of the best products to the biggest retailers. They’re heavily investing in new equipment, processes and automation, having just spent nearly £2m on a new facility.

Qualifications

• At least 5+ years’ experience as a Site Technical Manager in a large food manufacturing organisation.
