Job Description

Messagemaker Displays has built a significant product range and accrued a wealth of technological knowledge and innovation over almost twenty years. As part of Stocksigns Ltd, both brands work under one roof in Redhill, Surrey. The company specialises in LED highways signage for the strategic road network, local and urban roads, industrial settings, and temporary traffic management.

This new role of Senior Technical Engineer will be primarily based at the workshop and office site in Redhill but will involve site visits around the UK as needed for installation and maintenance support. This position is crucial in supporting Messagemaker Displays' growth through new product development and key project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Commissioning new signage and fault finding on existing orders and projects, ensuring high quality and performance.
  2. Managing the Messagemaker workshop, overseeing operations, and ensuring efficiency.
  3. Commissioning LED products and systems, and providing client training for proper usage and maintenance.
  4. Testing, fault diagnosis, and repair of faulty products for swift resolution.
  5. Providing technical support to clients via phone, email, or site visits, addressing concerns and queries.
  6. Developing new products with key suppliers to stay aligned with market trends and technological advancements.
  7. Advising internal sales staff on technical matters to ensure optimal product solutions for customers.
  8. Liaising with suppliers to ensure products meet required specifications.
  9. Writing specifications for manufacturing processes of products and systems.
  10. Conducting and documenting Factory Acceptance Tests to ensure quality standards are met.
  11. Managing stock levels and resources efficiently.
  12. Occasional site visits to assist with projects or remedial issues, maintaining excellent customer service.

Technical Skills

Essential

  • Hands-on experience with electrical and electronic products and systems.
  • Knowledge of data communication protocols.
  • Experience with software installations on Windows OS.
  • Ability to read electrical/electronic schematic diagrams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical/electronic circuits, voltages, and currents.

Desirable

  • Experience working with LED components.
  • Knowledge of IT networking (TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Experience with Serial Communication Protocols (RS232, 485, 422).
  • Knowledge of picture/video editing software.
  • Experience with server setup for cloud-based software.
  • Understanding of DNS and port forwarding.
  • Experience installing and commissioning electronic and AV equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical fixings and tools for electronic equipment installation indoors and outdoors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or related field.
  • CSCS certification (desirable).
  • IPAF certification (desirable).
  • PASMA certification (desirable).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
