Senior Technical Accountant (Ceded Reinsurance)

Ceded Reinsurance is a strategic function within AXA XL responsible for defining and implementing reinsurance strategy and administrating all reinsurance treaties through their lifecycle. It is part of the AXA XL Risk Management, with the Chief Risk Officer as a member of the leadership team.

The Ceded Re Operations team manages all Treaty Reinsurance business written within AXA XL. It consists of Technical Operations, Technical Accounting, Data & Operations Reporting, and Central Operations.

This role is within the UK-based Ceded Reinsurance Technical Accounting team, primarily responsible for:

• Overseeing settlement of all Ceded Premiums and recovery of Ceded Recoveries (~USD 3bn/year);
• Managing collateral collection (~USD 9bn);
• Overseeing BDX releases to reinsurers;
• Performing credit control and aged debt management for treaty and facultative portfolios;
• Managing collateral for US entities, contributing to technical accounting processes, participating in transformation plans, and developing stakeholder relationships.

Environment and Challenges:

The team manages $9bn of collaterals across 150 reinsurers, essential for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. The specialist maintains relationships with core brokers and reinsurers to ensure high-quality service.

Exposure:

The role involves liaising with internal teams (Shared Services, Actuaries, Finance, Underwriting, Claims, IT, Legal) and external stakeholders (brokers, reinsurers, banks, auditors).

Main Activities:

• Managing collateral processes and ensuring compliance;
• Redesigning collateral management projects;
• Handling daily collateral activities and communication;
• Gathering and communicating reinsurance exposure data;
• Maintaining collateral inventories and reconciliations;
• Collaborating with technical teams and external partners;
• Developing reports and process improvements;
• Supporting audits and training offshore teams.

Candidate Profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field, or equivalent experience;
• Experience in finance or reinsurance industry;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills;
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
