Senior Technical Accountant Job Description

Overview:

The Senior Technical Accountant will join our Technical Accounting Group (TAG), with responsibility for providing accounting advice and support to the treasury team's clients, the technical advisory group, and client relationship managers.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have UK Public Sector Technical Accounting experience. Preferably from working in a local authority role, other sectors such as NHS will also be considered.

The team are problem solvers and this is a great role, allowing you to deepen your existing technical accounting knowledge, all whilst being supported by a collaborative team.

What you need:

  • Demonstrable UK technical accounting experience, preferably within local government, but other public sector experience such as NHS will be considered
  • Proven technical capability as a driven finance professional, with the ability to deliver high standards
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CPFA qualified with minimum 5+ years' post-qualification experience
  • Knowledge and application of CIFA Code of Practice / UK GAAP and familiarity with Local Government Financial Regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information and build relationships with stakeholders
  • Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent time management, resilience, and the drive to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to self-motivate and motivate others
  • Flexibility to travel to client engagements as required

Day to Day, you will:

  • Provide technical accounting support as part of the TAG team
  • Assist in delivering technical accounting services to the treasury team, TAG, and clients
  • Deliver consultancy work, maintain client satisfaction, and manage expectations
  • Support TAG, client relationship managers, and executives in technical queries
  • Develop and assist with marketing initiatives like conferences, seminars, and publications
  • Present financial information clearly and effectively
  • Produce technical accounting work such as Balance Sheet Reviews, Fair Value reports, and Due Diligence reports
  • Assist in preparing training materials and delivering technical workshops/seminars
  • Support research and development of technical accounting changes and consultation responses
