About the Role

Leicestershire County Council is one of the best performing councils in the country. We've achieved several decades of high performances, with our success recognised by national Government, industry awards and our residents.

We are recruiting a qualified CCAB Accountant to manage the completion of the County Council's statutory financial statements. The post will also manage the fixed asset register and provide technical accounting and taxation advice to the Council. It will involve working closely with strategic finance professionals and the external auditor, and will maximise the benefit of the Oracle Fusion system and the associated reporting tools.

About You

The key responsibilities of the post are:

  • To manage the production and publication of the Council's financial statements, including being the main point of contact with external auditors.
  • To manage the Council's fixed asset register and year end accounting entries, maintain effective relationships with the Council's professional Valuers ensuring timely completion of asset valuations.
  • To ensure the financial integrity of the general ledger, through regular and effective reconciliations, implementing and reviewing internal controls and maintaining the chart of accounts.
  • To co-ordinate the completion of corporate statutory external financial returns and to keep up to date with relevant financial and legislative developments ensuring compliance across different functions of the authority.
  • To develop the finance function through technical financial training, advice and support.
  • To understand and keep up to date with changes to the way the Council operates providing appropriate financial advice, including partnerships and projects.
  • To manage and develop staff reporting to post holder
