Senior Systems Safety Engineer

Location: remote (potential site visits)

Salary: £45-60k

Level of experience: 5-10 years; however, candidates with all levels of experience are welcome to apply.

Reporting to the Technical Director, this role provides a fantastic career opportunity while developing your skills and experience under the guidance and mentorship of our senior team. You will be able to work across a range of activities at various stages of the systems engineering lifecycle. You will thrive on doing something different every day and be comfortable with ambiguity. You will have a strong desire to learn new things. You will be a good communicator at all levels, able to understand and decompose complexity and present it in simple terms.

The role:

Provide a range of technical consulting services and innovative solutions to clients across the Systems Safety Assurance Engineering discipline:

  1. Providing safety advice across the full systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition through to commissioning of safety-critical and high-reliability systems, including:
  2. Interpreting and applying relevant standards in engineering delivery projects (e.g., AREMA, CSM-RA, CENELEC, ISO/IEC, IEEE)
  3. Independently perform the Validator Role as per CENELEC EN5012x for company projects
  4. Support and lead tender submissions in conjunction with internal stakeholders while identifying commercial opportunities with clients
  5. Provide continual subject matter expertise to ensure exceptional client relationships are maintained.

Providing Consultancy Services in Transportation, Utilities & Energy, and Defence & Security sectors throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, the client is a progressive and flexible company, offering the opportunity to work from home, business needs permitting. Travel may be required to project and client offices with occasional overnight stays or longer-term secondments. This may include opportunities for working overseas.

Experience & skills:

Qualifications:
  1. A minimum of a technical Degree, equivalent qualification, or experience
  2. Corporate membership with an appropriate professional institution (e.g., INCOSE, SaRS, IET, IMechE).
  3. Professional qualified or working towards professional qualification (e.g., IEng/CEng)
  4. INCOSE recognised status, e.g., Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).

Experience:
  1. Broad experience of Systems Safety Assurance activities in a complex, safety-focused, and regulated organisation with multiple complex interfaces. Ideally in rail (e.g., heavy, metro or light) or a similar regulated environment (e.g., aerospace or nuclear)
  2. Comfortable with, and demonstrable experience of, resolving ambiguity in task, system safety, and safety requirements definition
  3. Able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  4. Delivery focused with an enthusiasm to make a positive difference
  5. Demonstrable experience of change management, rapidly adapting to emerging requirements, changing circumstances, and high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity in a fast-changing environment
  6. Formal Project Management experience.

Skills:
  1. Significant experience in applying safety in design and system safety assurance practices and processes in line with CSM-RA, CENELEC EN5012x, and ISO15288
  2. Knowledge of systems engineering, human factors, resilience engineering, and/or asset management, including:
    1. Requirements capture, analysis, and management
    2. Verification and validation
    3. Interface identification, control, and management
    4. Systems architecture development
    5. Systems migration planning
    6. MBSE tools, such as SPARX Enterprise Architect, Cameo Systems Modeler, IBM Rational Rhapsody Architect, Capella or other similar.
