About The Role

The Senior Quality Engineer is based within our Mission Systems Effectors business unit. Babcock is a trusted provider of integrated solutions for global defence and security. We have a wide portfolio of best-in‑class intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance solutions, communications, and weapons launch and handling solutions across all domains, integrating the best of industry to meet our customers’ needs.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be ensuring all project decisions are in line with quality standards and analysing risk that may compromise quality. Liaising with internal stakeholders (Project Managers), external suppliers (visiting suppliers to carry out quality checks) and external customers (supporting proposals of bids).

Responsibilities

• Represent the customer’s interests and help to maintain the open and collaborative relationship we have.
• Provide quality input and advice through the project lifecycle.
• Identify quality risk and work to mitigate, manage and elevate issues to programme leadership.
• Manage non‑conformance process, driving root cause analysis and prevention where appropriate.
• Oversee progress and sign‑off the delivery process to give the customer assurance their requirements have been met.
• Collect, analyse and report on quality performance data.

Essential Experience

• A proficient quality assurance engineer with experience in a related industry and familiar with how quality applies throughout a product or service delivery lifecycle.
• Previous customer‑facing role or experience is beneficial.
• Experience of implementing quality improvements and encouraging culture change within a team or organisation.
• Experience of auditing quality ISO9001 management systems.
• Excellent working knowledge of quality tools and problem‑solving techniques and be able to provide guidance to others in their use (e.g. Pareto, FMEA, 5 why’s, 8D, etc.).

Qualifications

• ONC, HNC or NVQ Level 3 qualification in a quality, science, engineering discipline are desirable.
• Membership of a recognised quality institute e.g. CQI is desirable.
• ISO 9001 auditor preferable, but training can be provided.
