Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Design Engineer to lead architecture and design of advanced C4I systems for defence programmes. You will mentor engineers, shape technical strategy, and engage MoD stakeholders to influence programme outcomes.

Qualifications

Extensive systems engineering experience and design leadership.
Ability to resolve complex design challenges and make strategic trade-offs.
Proven track record leading cross-functional teams and engaging specialist disciplines.
Expertise in structured design methods and requirements management.
Exceptional communication skills for senior-level reviews.

Responsibilities

Lead system architecture and design for complex defence systems, translating concepts into robust solutions.
Define and implement technical strategy aligned with programme objectives.
Guide design reviews and ensure integrity across lifecycle, integrating Safety, Security, Human Factors, ILS, Training.
Conduct trade studies, performance modelling, and evaluate emerging technologies.
Mentor junior engineers and engage with MoD representatives to influence programme decisions.
