This role entails ensuring compliance with sustainability regulatory frameworks, leading projects, and engaging various teams to promote sustainability throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in environmental management and strong project leadership skills, contributing to the Trust's commitment to 'perfect care'.
We are recruiting for a Sustainability Lead to act as the Trust's professional adviser on all Sustainability & Waste matters at Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust. The role includes implementing initiatives under this remit, including taking a project lead role in Delivering a Net Zero National Health Service as mandated by legislation through the Health and Care Act 2022.
The post involves ownership of the Merseycare Trust Green Plan, embedding it into daily trust operations, and providing professional leadership on environmental statutory compliance, waste management, energy and utility procurement, technical advice, monitoring, reduction programmes, project management, reporting, governance, and partnership working. This includes functions outside direct control, such as supply chain activity, and wider integration with STP and national strategies.
The Head of Sustainability will be the Trust’s lead specialist, responsible for developing and embedding sustainability principles within the organization. The successful candidate will ensure the Green Plan is implemented across the Trust, engaging clinical and corporate teams to meet the Trust’s objectives and promote sustainability organization-wide and externally.
The postholder will manage and deliver sustainability projects, oversee the Trust’s sustainability action plan, monitor progress against targets, and develop funding strategies for energy and carbon-saving initiatives. Responsibilities also include developing auditing, monitoring, evaluation mechanisms, and promoting sustainability awareness through communication and training.
