Job Description

Our specialist Housing Sustainability and Net Zero team is growing in response to rising demand from social housing providers and public sector organisations. We are looking particularly for individuals with demonstrable industry experience supporting housing sustainability programmes to support investment planning and delivery on the net zero carbon agenda.

Our Senior Consultants come from a range of organisations including energy and sustainability consultancies, engineering firms, local authorities, and housing associations. They have played key roles in housing and real estate sustainability projects, with technical experience in retrofit and possibly line management responsibilities.

This role places you at the forefront of the net zero carbon transition in the UK’s housing and public sectors. The specific responsibilities will be shaped around your skills and experience, with opportunities to develop net zero energy and ESG strategies or support project delivery on innovative projects like the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator and Retrofit Accelerator for Homes.

Key tasks (not necessarily all in one person):

• Line manage junior consultants and support their professional development.
• Develop business cases for new service areas to expand our reach to new clients, sectors, and technologies.
• Lead project management, including client liaison, resource management, and budgeting.
• Assist social landlords and public sector bodies through their net-zero strategies and investment programmes, covering all phases from awareness to completion.
• Analyze housing asset data to benchmark energy performance and develop investment scenarios.
• Help social landlords measure environmental performance and establish ESG strategies and reporting frameworks.
• Support industry assistance programmes like the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator, working directly with housing providers.
• Identify new business opportunities and contribute to bids.

Qualifications

We seek a diverse range of skills and experiences, including:

Essential:

• Degree or relevant work experience in sustainability or environment, focusing on housing or the built environment.
• Strong project management skills for complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
• Experience interpreting data for decarbonization and asset planning.
• Expertise in net zero and ESG policy in social housing.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Problem-solving skills and client relationship management experience.

Desirable:

• Experience with social landlords/public sector, asset management, finance, or development.
• Construction sector experience, including contract management.
• Experience in new build housing development.
• Knowledge of retrofit guidance and tools, sustainable procurement, and stakeholder engagement.
• Relevant qualifications like Retrofit Coordinator or PAS2035 awareness.
• Team management and business development experience.
• Skills in energy performance benchmarking and sustainability reporting frameworks.
• Technical solutions for housing archetypes, including fabric measures and low-carbon heating.
