Job description

Mechanical Building Services Engineer - Flexible/Hybrid Work - £42,000-45,000 - Local Authority

Main Purpose

To support the surveying team across the full range of activities carried out by the profession and to provide advice and guidance to junior staff within the profession. Deliver mechanical service delivery via Amey subcontractors. Design and run contracts/schemes from inception to completion. Ensure compliance across the contract, including service & repairs, to meet KPI requirements as a minimum. Provide professional support and advice to other team members & operations managers.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide guidance on the best methods and practices to meet technical and project requirements.
  2. Monitor relevant technical aspects of plans. Report variances and provide suggestions for corrective actions. Reactive themed works.
  3. Keep up to date with industry best practice and, where appropriate, brief staff & clients.
  4. Liaise with clients on technical matters, budgets & other requests.
  5. Provide input into projects, budgets & other client requirements.
  6. Implement company quality procedures on all projects.
  7. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and other regulations.
  8. Manage workload and delivery, including technical training, development, and resourcing.
  9. Contribute to monthly financial reports, including management accounts and external payment applications, in conjunction with the principal surveyor.
  10. Assist the Operations Manager in business development activities, including producing information for PQQs and Tenders.
Role Specific Responsibilities
  1. Manage projects and contractors daily.
  2. Liaise with help desk and clients regularly.
  3. Ensure timely KPI delivery.
  4. Oversee PPM works in compliance with legislation and monitor contractors.
  5. Onboard and manage contractors.
  6. Be competent in using CAFM & basic Microsoft software.
Communication

Internal: Hard Services Manager, Surveyors, other senior staff, multi-professional team leadership.
External: Clients for project delivery and relationship management.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • 18th edition wiring regulations, time-served Electrical/Building services Engineer with ONC or higher qualification.
  • Clean driving licence.
Skills
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Problem-solving and technical realization skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2004 (beneficial), NBS, MS Office Suite, and MS Project (advantage).
Experience
  • Proven skills and qualifications in relevant areas.
  • Post-registration experience as a surveyor, especially in Local Authority work including education and commercial projects.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environments and management roles.
  • UK-specific experience.
