Job summary

Qualifications

• Essential: NMC Registered; Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent.
• Desirable: Higher degree.
• Essential: Thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty; Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty; Understanding NHS MDT structures and roles.
• Desirable: Knowledge of research/audit and ability to interpret/apply clinical research to practice.
• Desirable: Advanced communication course.
• Essential: Ability to develop effective working relationships and prioritise workload.
• Essential: Flexibility to work under pressure and meet department demands.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct care to patients within their caseload per policies.
• Practice within Surgical First Assistant parameters; follow guidelines and trust policies.
• Maintain core and specific clinical competencies and identify training needs.
• Participate in user groups, MDT meetings and specialty forums weekly.
• Engage in research-based practice to inform care.
• Undertake pre-operative assessment of patients and address needs.
• Manage pre-operative concerns with anxiety support where needed.
• Provide skilled anticipatory assistance to the surgeon.
